that is why there is a queue, and why it usually sells out before closing.

the matcha

ceremonial-grade, sifted by hand, then whisked in a glass chawan with water held at temperature. the grade on the board changes; ask which one is in.

the kopi

nanyang beans from yong seng, proudly roasting in singapore since 1974, brewed here as kopi, cold brew, or poured over matcha to make it dirty.

from scratch

the strawberry compote is cooked down here, the syrups are made here, and the weekly special is whatever fruit is good that week.

the fridge

one small fridge of craft beer, rotating — matcha next to the fishmonger, a rice lager next to the matcha.

the neighbourhood

50a marine terrace market has been feeding this estate since 1975.

built on reclaimed land for the marine terrace flats — 24 cooked-food stalls and 87 market stalls under one roof, refurbished in 2023. the thomson–east coast line reached the door in june 2024. cornershop is the corner unit: matcha next to the fishmonger, which is the whole idea.
